Smoking during pregnancy affects you and your baby's health before, during, and after your baby is born. Smoking while pregnant will:

    Lower the amount of oxygen available to you and your growing baby.
    Increase your baby's heart rate.

    Increase your baby's risk of developing respiratory (lung) problems.

    The more cigarettes you smoke per day, the greater your baby's chances of developing these and other health problems. There is no "safe" level of smoking while pregnant.

Because a developing baby's body breaks down alcohol much more slowly than an adult's, a fetus's blood alcohol level can rise much higher than its mother's and stay elevated longer. The damage can be long lasting and severe, ranging from mental retardation to heart damage.

    Unfortunately, according to the National Academy of Sciences, 20 percent of women who drink alcohol continue to do so during pregnancy. And about 1 in 29 women who know that they're pregnant report dangerous levels of drinking (defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as more than seven drinks in a week or five and above on one occasion).


    How Does Secondhand Smoke Affect Pregnancy?

    Secondhand smoke (also called passive smoke or environmental tobacco smoke) is the combination of smoke from a burning cigarette and smoke exhaled by a smoker.

    The smoke that burns off the end of a cigarette or cigar actually contains more harmful substances (tar, carbon monoxide, nicotine, and others) than the smoke inhaled by the smoker.

    If you are regularly exposed to secondhand smoke, you increase your and your baby's risk of developing lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema, allergies, asthma, and other health problems.

    Babies exposed to secondhand smoke may also develop reduced lung capacity and are at higher risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

    How Can I Quit Smoking Before or During Pregnancy?

    There are many smoking cessation programs available to help you quit smoking. Ask your health care provider for more information about these programs.
    Here are some tips that may help you kick the habit:

    Hide your matches, lighters, and ashtrays.
    Designate your home a non-smoking area.
    Ask people who smoke not to smoke around you.
    Drink fewer caffeinated beverages; caffeine may stimulate your urge to smoke. Also avoid alcohol, as it may also increase your urge to smoke and can be harmful to your baby.
    Change your habits connected with smoking. If you smoked while driving or when feeling stressed, try other activities to replace smoking.
    Keep mints or gum (preferably sugarless) on hand for those times when you get the urge to smoke.
    Stay active to keep your mind off smoking and help relieve tension: take a walk, exercise, read a book, or try a new a hobby.
    Look for support from others. Join a support group or smoking cessation program.
    Do not go places where many people are smoking such as bars or clubs, and smoking sections of restaurants.

Nadiis are channels in the subtle body through which the life force (prana), or vital energy moves. Various scriptural texts and teachings present a different number of chakras. There are many chakras in the subtle human body according to the tantric texts, but there are 6 chakras and 7th(sahasrara) is the state which are considered to be the most important ones.



    Using the power of affirmations is one of the most effective ways to balance our chakras. Our thoughts create our reality, and by regularly practicing positive chakra balancing affirmations, we can achieve astonishing results in our lives.

    Chakra is a Sanskrit word which literally translates into a spinning wheel. According to ancient yogic traditions, there are seven major chakras or energy centers in our body. Each of these chakras corresponds to a particular color-coded vibrational frequency in the universe which influences our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. When our chakras are perfectly aligned with the universal flow of energy, every aspect of our life becomes harmonious and joyful. We reclaim perfect health, and our love and passion for life becomes renewed.


    When using the following affirmations, sit or lie down in a quiet place and focus on the location of each chakra. As you speak out or silently meditate on each affirmation, visualize a wheel spinning face-up in a clockwise direction in the specific color frequency of each chakra:

    4. Heart Chakra – The heart chakra is located in the centre of the chest and spins with the vibrant green color of spring. This chakra is one of the most important meditation tools for cleansing and clearing spiritual imbalances. The key issues related to the heart chakra are unconditional love, compassion and wellbeing.

    Sip it or smooth it on
